[ 2009-11-21 ] Cyonglin No. 22
Cyonglin village is located at the center of Kinmen and Taiwu Mountain to the west. According to Feng Shui(Chinese geomancy) theory, the foundation features the layout of “Cave of Hen” as the dragon vein flows through Taiwu Mountain, Chen Keng, Shuang Ru Mountain and Cyonglin, and the mountains are of the same range, and finally converge in this area, thus leading to the important reason of prosperity for Tsai clan in this village. The tomb of Shihcilang, the founding ancestor of Tsai clan, is located at the foot of Taiwu Mountain having a commanding view from a vantage ground that creates a perfect layout of Feng Shui (Chinese geomancy), the important factor leading the clan to thrive and prosper and boost a trend for the locals to achieve a prosperous official career.

With its geographical location not situated near the sea, Cyonglin relied heavily on agricultural production to maintain its economic development in early days. Cyonglin is also known as “Zuoshan” by the locals. As Cyonglin is located on a fault line, making the village bringing it prolific resources as the water source in good quality suffices for agricultural irrigation.

Geographically, trees thrive in Cyonglin which has abundant water resources. Camphor tree and Eucalyptus citriodora Hook are planted in the surrounding environment of this village that is of great benefit the climate modification. Enjoying good water quality, Cyonglin abounds with watermelon of sweet taste in summer.
Featuring its large number of clan branch and many locals’ successful pursuit of official career, Jiatou spatial organization partition is quite complex in Cyonglin and the village has no fixed orientation. Each clan branch sets up one coherently- orientated ancestral shrine of small clans, and such condition is the revision of comb-style layout for South Fujian style village.
